New Toy Loan Center Now Serving Families in the Wilmington Area
Abode Communities is happy to announce the grand opening of its first toy loan center at its Harbor View Place apartment complex, in Wilmington. The center will serve some 109 resident families and community in large. The children are able to borrow/return toys once a week at the facility that is staffed by volunteers. The toy loan program helps children establish a sense of responsibility through an honor and merit system; it connects adult and teenage community through voluntary commitment to assist the children; and it foster a positive attitude in children by providing them an accepted means of obtaining toys. This is a voluntary community effort sponsored by Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, and the LA County Department of Public Social Services.
Abode Communities|Resident Services and Abode Communities|Property Management have collaborated closely to bring this program to fruition and the staff will continue working closely to ensure the program’s success.
The free toy loan program was created in 1935 for the low-income families. There are currently more than 54 toy centers throughout the Greater Los Angeles area.
