Harrower Village
Originally built in 1921 and in operation for more than 40 years, The Harrower Laboratory and Clinic served as a medical campus for nationally recognized endocrinologist Dr. Henry Harrower. After a host of additional office and educational uses, City of Glendale acquired the building in 2019 with the intent to increase affordable housing for seniors.
Abode Communities was awarded the development opportunity via a competitive RFP, bringing forth a plan to transition the existing building and build one new residential structure, adding 40 affordable senior homes at this central Glendale location. Today, the building exemplifies Beaux Arts-style architecture, a design tradition rooted in classical French aesthetics emphasizing symmetry, grandeur, and ornate detailing. Through Abode Communities’ preservation and adaptive re-use effort, the original campus is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
