Abode Communities Awarded Competitive RFP to Develop Affordable Housing for Farmworker Families in Coachella Valley

Abode Communities is headed to Coachella Valley! We are excited announce that Abode Communities has been awarded a competitive Request for Proposal from the Housing Authority of the County of Riverside (HACR) to develop Villa Verde, a vibrant residential community that embraces and reflects the City of Coachella’s resiliency while creating new opportunities for social cohesion and connectivity.

Created in partnership with Kounkuey Design Initiative, the development program emphasizes increased affordable housing stock to foster the positive social, economic and physical transformation of this partially rural community. Comprised of 153 service-enhanced affordable homes for low-income, farmworker families, Villa Verde creates linkages to its neighborhood with more than 50,000 square feet of open space, highlighted by a central promenade known as “Verde Path.” A plaza, located at the western property line, further offers residents an abundance of life-enriching amenities such as an outdoor pavilion, play structure, interactive splash pad and a resident center, among more. This $62 MM development will be divided into two phases and is expected to utilize funding from a variety of sources including 9% Low Income Housing Tax Credits, USDA 514 and 521 Grant and Loan Programs, as well as funding from HACR and the City of Coachella.
