Selma Community Housing Wins Prestigious Charles S. Edson Honorable Mention

Abode Communities is pleased to announce that Selma Community Housing received honorable mention in the Green Housing Category at the 23rd Annual Charles L. Edson Tax Credit Excellence Awards in the Green Building category.

The Charles S. Edson Awards is a national program presented each year by the Affordable Housing Tax Credit Coalition. Awards are given to the most outstanding Low Income Housing Tax Credit developments in eight categories.  Members of Congress, businesses and organizations convene to celebrate Housing Credit developments that are creating stronger, healthier communities in urban, suburban and rural areas across the country.

“We are honored that Selma Community Housing was recognized as one of the most outstanding LIHTC developments in the country,” said Robin Hughes, President & CEO of Abode Communities. “Built in an effort to improve access to affordable housing in a rapidly-gentrifying neighborhood, Selma also prioritizes environmentally sustainable homes as a means to improve health outcomes, link residents to an abundance of community resources, and minimize the impact our developments have within the neighborhoods where we own and operate our housing.”

Situated less than three blocks away from the Metro Red Hollywood & Highland light rail station, this $32.9 M development features 66 service-enhanced affordable homes for families and Los Angeles Unified School District employees. The site, originally an underutilized parking lot, was transformed into a contemporary LEED® for Homes Platinum development with an innovative joint-use program featuring 67 residential parking spaces and 50 school district parking spaces that serve Selma Elementary School by day and supplement Hollywood’s limited public parking supply by night.
